Amplicom BigTel 50 Plus Wireless Emergency Alarm Telephone - How Does It Work:
On pressing the remote button of the wireless pendant, the three user-programmed numbers in the base unit are dialled in sequence with a pre-recorded message, e.g. “Mrs Johns needs assistance at 4, Lever Way. Please press 0 to accept”, this will call each stored number for 1 minute before calling the next until the 0 button has been pressed by the person receiving the emergency call.
Until the BigTel 50 phone registers that the 0 button has been pressed, it will continue to dial the three numbers in sequence even if it gets through to a voice mail (as the 0 has not been pressed).
The emergency response feature also works in the event of a power cut through the battery back up option. The 3 emergency numbers stored in the BigTel 50 are backed by a Flash memory to prevent loss of the numbers.
Q: What happens in the event an answering machine picks up the call?
A: The BigTel 50 will detect this (as the 0 has not been pressed) and continue to dial the next number in sequence.
Q: What happens if the number dialled is engaged?
A: The BigTel 50 will try for 1 minute and carry on to the next number in sequence.
Q: What happens if no one answers the call?
A: The BigTel 50 will ring for 1 minute and if no human response is received, it will move on and dial the next number in the sequence.
Q: What happens if all the dialled numbers are either engaged, not answered or an answering machine picks up the call?
A: The BigTel 50 will dial all 3 programmed numbers for 1 minute before calling the next in sequence until the 0 button has been pressed by the person receiving the emergency call.
Q: Can the sequence of emergency numbers be dialled from the phone itself?
A: Yes, the emergency call can be started by pressing the M1, M2, M3 keys.
Q: What happens if I need an extra transmitter or need to replace a lost one?
A: Order online or ring the M2Cshop helpline on 0208 829 9130.
Q: How long do the batteries last in the transmitter?
A: The batteries in theory should last a very long time as the transmitters are only used in emergencies, but we do recommend that they are changed every 2 years.
Q: How can I check that the remote transmitters are working?
A: The BigTel 50 has a test mode to check the workings of the remote transmitters and can be tested at any time.
Q: What is the working distance of the transmitter to the phone?
A: The actual distance depends on many things, the structure of the building, thickness of walls, obstructions like steel baths, etc. Officially the manufacturers quote a distance of 30m indoors and 50m outdoors.
Q: I run a nursing home and wish to install a BigTel 50 in different rooms. Will the remote transmitters interfere with the other phones?
A: This is not a problem as each phone and its respective transmitters have individual programmed frequencies. We can supply phones with different frequencies to avoid interference from other transmitters within or near the same location.
